I was at a church sale when I saw a very pretty doll sitting on a shelf for $1.00. She was a vinyl doll measuring about 12 inches and wearing a dress embellished with all sorts of beads and colorful sequins. I paid for the doll and put her in my car. I remember making several stops that day and forgot about the doll still in the bag and still in the backseat of my car.
The next day I noticed the doll was out of the bag and sitting in the backseat wearing a seatbelt. I felt a little uneasy finding the doll this way. I assumed it was my brother playing a prank, because as kids we would all move dolls around the house, trying to freak each other out. Feeling pretty confident it was a joke, I put the doll back in the bag and in the trunk of my car.
Months went by before I even thought about the doll again. After a day of shopping, my sister and I went to put our bags in the trunk when I noticed the doll, just as I left it. I took the doll out of the bag and said that I forgot about her. Just as I spoke, the doll's head popped off and fell backwards into my trunk. My sister screamed loudly as I threw the doll body back in the trunk and slammed it shut.
Nothing could really explain how the doll's head came off. It wasn't loose and yet it came off with such ease. I thought back at the time the doll was sitting in my car as if she were a child waiting to go to the park. Needless to say, I threw her out the next day. This may sound crazy, but I know there was something wrong with that doll. I still get chills thinking about her.
